Treasury of Ice and Snow

When He spoke unlimited cold snow and ice were created.

Now that we are getting into the winter months, many people look forward to it cooling down and others want it hot all the time. Just think of all the things you could not do if we did not have snow or ice. No snow skiing, sledding, or snowball fights, not even those funny looking snow people. If there, were no ice on the frozen ponds there would be no ice-skating or playing ice hockey. Well, they could play street hockey but that just is not as much fun. There is so much more to do when it gets cold but not enough time or space to mention it all.

One of my favorite things to do is to just look at all the beauty. The snow as it covers everything as far as the eyes can see. It is so clean and fresh, like your part of a completely new world. If it did not ever get cold and cause the plants and trees to go to sleep, we would not have all the new life beginning in the spring.

The snow and ice are like a blanket on the earth allowing things to rest and be renewed. Oh, what colors emerge when it starts to warm and thaw out those sleeping plants and trees. As much as some would rather not have winter I look forward to it, because once it is over everything seems so alive, colorful, and new.

Job 37:6 (NKJV)
6. For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’;
Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength.

Job 37:10 (NKJV)
10. By the breath of God ice is given,
And the broad waters are frozen.

Job 38:22 (NKJV)
22. “Have you entered the treasury of snow,
Or have you seen the treasury of hail,

Job 38:30 (NKJV)
30. The waters harden like stone,
And the surface of the deep is frozen.

Psalm 147:16-17 (NKJV)
16. He gives snow like wool;
He scatters the frost like ashes;
17. He casts out His hail like morsels;
Who can stand before His cold?

Banner of Color

When He spoke a never ending promise was created between Him and us.

After a storm, the first thing that I look for is a rainbow. Sometimes there is only a half of one. On the other hand, if you get very lucky you can see one that is double and stretches across the horizon. Those double rainbows speak very loud to me. It reminds me of the promises God made to me as well as everyone else.

A rainbow looks like a multi-colored banner in the sky but there are some in our society that have actually used it as a banner and flag to represent something that god doesn’t like or approve of. Those types of acts make Him angry, it is not that He is angry with the people; He loves them and always has from the beginning of time.

Rainbows represent a covenant or a promise not a movement to make people be accepted He already accepts them. The world makes it hard for them. And sadly, there are religious people out there that do not even speak the truth. God does love everyone, no matter what life they are living. Next time you see that rainbow in the sky know that God made a promise and He does not go back on His promises.

Genesis 9:13-17 (NKJV)
13. I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
14. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud;
15. and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16. The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
17. And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

Ezekiel 1:28 (NKJV)
28. Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.

2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)
9. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Revelation 4:3 (NKJV)
3. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance;
and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.

Lightning Strikes and Thunder Rolls

When He spoke the bolts came from the sky and claps of thunder began.

Living in the lightning capital of the United States we have seen our share of this unbelievable power. What it does when it hits certain objects and even when it just hits close by. Most often, we end up with no electricity until the storm passes. Sometimes the thunder is so deafening it sounds like a bomb was set off. Other times it rumbles, seemingly from one end of the sky to the other. It makes you feel like saying, Okay God what are you telling me?”

To watch it steaming across the sky in so many different ways, it is hard not to think about whom is telling it where to go. The lightning and thunder are never the same. So from a safe place watch for those flashes and wait for the noise that sounds like it is talking to you. And think about the how awesome all of it is.

Is Florida Really the Lightning Capital of the World?

Exodus 19:16 (NKJV)
16. Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thundering’s and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.

Job 36:32-33 (NKJV)
32. He covers His hands with lightning,
And commands it to strike.
33. His thunder declares it,
The cattle also, concerning the rising storm.

Job 37:1-2 (NKJV)
1. “At this also my heart trembles,
And leaps from its place.
2. Hear attentively the thunder of His voice,
And the rumbling that comes from His mouth.

Job 37:3 (NKJV)
3. He sends it forth under the whole heaven,
His lightning to the ends of the earth

Job 38:35 (NKJV)
35. Can you send out lightnings, that they may go,
And say to you, ‘Here we are!’?

Psalm 77:18 (NKJV)
18. The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The lightnings lit up the world;
The earth trembled and shook.

Matthew 24:27 (NKJV)
27. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Matthew 28:3 (NKJV)
3. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.

Stormy Atmosphere

When He spoke the skies began to rage.

Storms truly are attention getters. The way the atmosphere changes, the air cools, and the wind changes direction seemingly on a dime, then the rain comes down in such white sheets you can hardly see in front of you. It makes you wonder where all that water comes from, well we can say this when all that rain falls and runs into the rivers and streams it makes its way back to the sea. There it will start it journey all over again.

Clouds are really great. They can pull moisture up from any body of water, plus out of the sky around them. Then when they are too full, it rains. Wondering how? Its simple God balances it all. He knows who needs rain and who does not. When areas get too much rain and it floods, it is not His fault that people built so much by the waters edges. In a sense, we have caused the flooding problem with all the concrete, not Him. So next time you want to blame God think about what we have done to His creation.

Job 26:12 (NKJV)
12. He stirs up the sea with His power,
And by His understanding He breaks up the storm.

Psalm 107:25 (NKJV)
25. For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up the waves of the sea.

Psalm 107:29 (NKJV)
29. He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.

Nahum 1:3 (NKJV)

3. The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked.
The LORD has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

Wind, Where does it come from?

When He spoke the wind began to move from one place to another.

One thing that we cannot see but we know is there. Wonder what it could be? Well, it is the wind. We feel it in many ways. On a summer’s night as it softly blows through the windows. And in the afternoon when it is hot and the breeze cools the moisture on your skin. How about on an autumn day when it blows the leaves out of the trees when they are ready to fall, or blows the piles of leaves after you have just raked them up.

 What about when weather begins to show in the sky. The wind picks up and starts to blow harder and even twists as the temperature changes. Wind is an awesome thing and we cannot see where it originates, but we know where it is going that is until it turns back around and comes at you.

Just like we are not able to see the wind we know it is there, we can’t see God but does that mean He is not real? So many people believe if you cannot see or touch it, that it must not be real. Well ask yourself this one question. How does the wind move and who guides it?

Psalm 55:8 (NKJV)
8. I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.”

Ecclesiastes 1:6 (NKJV)
6. The wind goes toward the south,
And turns around to the north;
The wind whirls about continually,
And comes again on its circuit.

Job 37:8-9 (NKJV)
8. The beasts go into dens,
And remain in their lairs.
9. From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind,
And cold from the scattering winds of the north.

Luke 8:23 (NKJV)
23. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.

Droplets from the Clouds

When He spoke the waters fell from the sky.

We are going to try to jog your memories with this one. Remember when you were a kid and you would lie down on the grass, may be it was in a big field or even in your back yard. And you watched as those fluffy white clouds would float by and you imagined what it looked like. Even when they turned dark and angry looking they were still fascinating to stare at, as they seem to rumble by.

Now let us go on to the next part, after they have turned dark. When the rain started we all, would run out, stand with our faces up to the sky, and let the drops hit our skin one by one. And as we looked up, we imagined where all those little bubbles of water came from. Well hopefully the verses we have included can explain a little bit, of how it all happens. The sad thing is that when we grow up we forget how to be like a kid. So next time you see that white fluffy cloud or it begins to rain, remember those simple days from your past.

Judges 5:4 (NKJV)
4. Lord, when You went out from Seir,
When You marched from the field of Edom,
The earth trembled and the heavens poured,
The clouds also poured water;

Job 26:8-9 (NKJV)
8. He binds up the water in His thick clouds,
Yet the clouds are not broken under it.
9. He covers the face of His throne,
And spreads His cloud over it.

Job 36:27-29 (NKJV)
27. For He draws up drops of water, which distill as rain from the mist,
28. Which the clouds drop down and pour abundantly on man.
29. Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds,
The thunder from His canopy?

Job 37:11-12 (NKJV)
11. Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds;
He scatters His bright clouds.
12. And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance,
That they may do whatever He commands them
On the face of the whole earth.

Job 37:16 (NKJV)
16. Do you know how the clouds are balanced,
Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge?

Job 38:34 (NKJV)
34. “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
That an abundance of water may cover you?

Psalm 135:7 (NKJV)
7. He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain;
He brings the wind out of His treasuries.

James 5:18 (NKJV)
18. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

By Land or By Sea

When He spoke there became land and oceans.

Land water and sea, all three of these topics are so incredible. Each makes up this earth that we live on. However, if you look very close at each one by itself you could say they were in their own little world. Just look at all the unbelievable Pictures that people from all over the globe has taken while out and about on this earth we call home. Land has so many beautiful things, too many to mention. And in the ocean all the colorful creatures big and small.

What about lakes that are large enough to kick up a storm that would match those on the open ocean. The amazing part of it all, each of these different and unique parts keeps everything in balance and flowing. Each has its own purpose and does what they do every day by God’s directions. It has nothing to do with (Mother Nature). God is who He is and always will be.

Job 9:8 (NKJV)
8. He alone spreads out the heavens,
And treads on the waves of the sea;

Proverbs 8:29 (NKJV)
29. When He assigned to the sea its limit,
So that the waters would not transgress His command,
When He marked out the foundations of the earth,

Ecclesiastes 1:7 (NKJV)
7. All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full;
To the place from which the rivers come, there they return again.

Jeremiah 5:22 (NKJV)
22. “Do you not fear Me?” says the LORD.
Will you not tremble at My presence,
Who have placed the sand as the bound of the sea,
By a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass beyond it?
And though its waves toss to and fro, yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it.

Amos 5:8 (NKJV)
8. He made the Pleiades and Orion;
He turns the shadow of death into morning and makes the day dark as night;
He calls for the waters of the sea
And pours them out on the face of the earth;

The LORD is His name.

The Earth’s Circle

When He spoke the northern and southern hemispheres were created.

Earth’s equator is an enormous circle; it is 24,901.5 miles in length. Can you imagine a perfect circle that many miles long? One name that has been given to the equator is the, (Great Circle). That circle runs along a sphere that cuts it into two equal halves. It is always spinning on its axis at 1,000 miles per hour. It is a good thing we have gravity or, well we do not want to think about that one.

 We know that everyone likes a certain time of the year. Most of us like the fall season most of all; each of us has our favorite. However, all those who live close to the equator must like it hot all the time. Near the equator there is basically one season-permanent summer. There is just so much information about the equator and all that goes along with it; we could never begin to tell you. We just wanted to point out that God is so precise about His creation that every planet spins and stays in its own orbit right where He put them.

Job 26:10 (NKJV)
10. He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters,
At the boundary of light and darkness.

Proverbs 8:27 (NKJV)
27. When He prepared the heavens, I was there,
When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,

Isaiah 40:22 (NKJV)
22. It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
